Super Thrustforce: Orbital Meat Police (STOMP!) is an action-packed arcade game, based loosely on the classic 8-bit game Thrust. Super-intelligent aliens from beyond the stars have abducted all of Earth's cows and taken then aboard their mothership orbiting the planet. The player assumes the role of a member of STOMP in a bid to rescue as many cows as possible, before defeating the alien menace for good.
I've always loved skill-based games like Thrust, where there's satisfaction from simply mastering the tricky controls of a spaceship in gravity, so that was my initial motivation for creating STOMP. However, I also wanted to make it as accessible as possible, so I augmented the traditional single shot weapon that's powerful but tricky to aim, with a pair of miniguns that make aiming much less of a concern - even if you miss what you're aiming at there's a good chance you'll hit something else instead. With that in place I needed something for the player to rescue. Humans were the obvious but dull choice. Growing up in the 80s with tales of UFO sightings and cattle abduction meant that the obvious alternative was cows, and that decision defined much of the rest of the game. Originally I was planning on including other livestock (hence "meat police"), but the cows provided so many good ideas that it wasn't needed (and I found it much harder to think up puns for pigs and sheep).
